Commissioners renew juvenile incarceration agreement
DeWitt County commissioners on Monday, Dec. 11, renewed a one-year contract between the San Patricio County Juvenile Probation Department and DeWitt County that provides for pre-adjudication detention of juvenile offenders.
That agreement begins with the start of the new year on Jan. 1, 2024. County Judge Daryl Fowler said the agreement provides for those under age 17 what the county jail essentially provides for adults.
“The pre-adjudication (detention centers), like San Patricio, is where we keep juveniles after the offence or delinquent conduct has occurred but before we have the adjudication hearing,” Fowler said. “It could be for a matter of days or multiple weeks, depending on the need.”
In other words, it’s a place to hold those under age 17 until they go to court to decide what decided to allocate $26,285 in state dollars across all four county precincts.
This program assists counties with materials to repair and maintain county roads damaged by the impact of the 2060 weight tolerance permits.
