Eric Otto Eckhardt

Eric Otto Eckhardt of Yoakum passed away on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023 at the age of 90. 

He was the son Otto Adolf Eckhardt and Antonie Braeutigam Eckhardt born on Friday, Oct. 27, 1933 in Fredericksburg.

 On June 15, 1958, he married Jo Ann Spies.

In 1999 he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Gladys Gold Dittmar and married her on Nov. 6, 1999. 

He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and Texas German Society. 

Eric is survived by his three children,  five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. 

Eric was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Jo Ann and Gladys; brothers, Gilbert, Alvin, Victor and Clemen, and his  sisters, Esther, Adeline, Norma, and an infant who died at birth.

Visitation began at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Prayer service began at 7 p.m.

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 21 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Yoakum. Pastor Alsin Wenzell officiated. 

Burial followed in the Hallettsville City Cemetery in Hallettsville.

Memorials may be made to South Texas Hospice Dornburg Compassion Center, Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Yoakum, St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville or to a charity of donor’s choice.
