Barnett makes two dozen to lead Bulldogs to victory in district opener

    The Yoakum Bulldogs had a fast start to their district opener Dec. 15 at Columbus, outscoring the Cardinals 20-4 in the opening period for a 63-54 win.

    Columbus went on a 19-15 run in the second quarter to trim the Bulldog lead to 35-23 at intermission.

    Columbus outscored Yoakum 18-14 in the third quarter to get within 49-41 and Yoakum put Columbus away with 14 of 27 points in the fourth quarter.

    X’Zavier Barnett led all scorers with 24 points. Gage Harrison sank 17 points and Zach Taylor added 10 points.

    Camdon Pitchford led the Cardinals with 22 points and four triples.
