Bulldogs win against the Brahmas

The Bulldogs soccer team first game of the season turned out to be a delight.

Led by a pair of goals each from Markangel Sanchez and Ian Pilat, the Bulldogs netted a 6-0 win against rival Hallettsville on Jan. 8 at Bulldog Stadium.

Bulldogs Head Coach Dewayne Arkadie was especially pleased about how hard the Bulldogs competed in the first game.

“I like the way we competed. We still have a lot to work on. As long as my guys compete for the entire game, that gives me something to work with,” he said.

It took the Bulldogs less than 10 minutes into the game to open the scoring— Hugo Turcios headed a corner kick from the left side around the 34:10 mark of the first half.

The Bulldogs doubled the lead about 10 minutes later as Bryan Diaz took the ball down the right side and put a low cross to Sanchez who finished for his first goal.

The Brahmas had their first chance around 14:56 with a shot from the left side of the box that Bulldog keeper Martin Perez knocked out for a corner kick.

The Bulldogs were gifted a great opportunity as they won a free kick just outside of the box, but the shot by Jesus Rivas was saved.

The Brahmas were not so fortunate a minute later as Ian Pilat got the ball and dribbled through a group of defenders to get a shot off and into the net.

The Bulldogs were not finished scoring as Sanchez sent a shot from the left side that made its way into the goal for a 4-0 lead with 2:30 left in the half.

The Bulldogs got a couple of shots off in the first two or three minutes of the second half before Diaz finished on a shot with 34:02 left.

The Bulldogs added one more goal when Rivas found Pilat, who dribbled into the box, got around the keeper, and slotted the ball home.

With under 2 0 minutes left, Keith Castaneda replaced Perez in making a goal and around the 13:15 mark, the soccer game officials ended the match due to weather in the area.
