The 61st Annual Jr. Livestock Show and Market Sale was held this past weekend at the William & Alton Allen Exposition Center with sales netting $410,885. The sale brought in $7,440 less than last year.
Lane Leopold, a member of the Lucky H 4-H Club, exhibited the Grand Champion steer, which weighed 1,365 pounds and sold for $18,100.
Lane’s, Charolais Cross, set a new record for grand champion steers sold at the HJLS, breaking the old record of $16,500 set in 2017.
The steer was purchased by the Grand Champion Steer group who included the Hallettsville Livestock Commission, Wold Pack Trading LLC – Stewart Cooper, Steve Ellison, Dave Fanta, Wesley Larkin and Maddie, Kelvin Morton, Cuero Livestock, Giddings Livestock, Cattleman’s Columbus Livestock, Cordele Cattle Co. – James Larkin, Keith and Sandy Foxell, Flatonia Livestock, Don Flournoy, Prosperity Bank (John Zacek), Scott and Jenna Henke, Whitley Lumber Yard and Chance Koenning.
Christine Felcman, a member of the Green Leaves 4-H Club, displayed the Grand Champion Lamb that weighed 138 pounds.

Hudson Prasek, a member of the Lavaca River 4-H Club, exhibited the Grand Champion Goat that weighed 95 pounds and was purchased by the Kinder-Morgan for a total of $5,700.
The Grand Champion Swine was exhibited by Lane Henke, who is a member of the Lucky H 4-H Club.

The reserve champion steer was shown by Wyatt Leopold, a Hallettsville FFA member.
Wyatt’s, steer weighed 1,259 pounds and sold for $6,800. Bexley Peck, a Town Rounders 4-H Club member, exhibited the reserve champion lamb that weighed 130 pounds and was purchased by Kinder Morgan for $5,800.
The reserve champion goat was shown by Morgan Felcman, a Green Leaves 4-H member. The goat weighed 95 pounds and sold for $5,699. It was bought by Peoples State Bank and others including: Carl A.
