Shiner CDA receives new members, awards membership pins
The Shiner Catholic Daughters of Court St. Paul #1604 met on Sunday, January 21. Regent Shirley Nagelmueller presided and welcomed members to the meeting, that included District Deputy Kathleen Svatek from Flatonia.
Members were treated to noodle soup and trimmings to begin the evening. Maggie Benes, who donated the noodles for the soup as well as for several door prizes, was extended a note of thanks for her generous donation. Others assisting with the meal were Debbie Pavliska, Anita Grabarkievtz, and Mary Rose Barta.
Minutes were read by Secretary, Camille Marek; and reports given by Treasurer, Jo Ann Winkenwerder; and Financial Secretary, Janet Pohl.
New members installed and welcomed into the court were: Diane Hirsch, Angel Rader, and Sonya Lovejoy.
Members present who were recognized for having attained special membership status included: Katherine Caka, 25 years; Rose Ann Raab, 25 years; Irene Picha, 25 years; Mary Ann Stock, 60 years. The membership pins of other members unable to attend and having achieved 25, 50, 60 and 70-year status can be claimed by contacting Regent Shirley Nagelmueller at 361-212-3722, or Mary Rose Barta at 361-798-6556.
Members were reminded that Father Bryan Heyer will be offering an adult education class on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass beginning on January 31. These weekly classes will be held in the Parish Activity Center from 6:30 – 8 p.m. and all adults are invited to attend.
Members who will serve on a Nominating Committee for new officers for the 2024-2026 term are: Carolyn Malik, Debbie Pavliska and Rhonda Pratka.
A discussion was held concerning the annual Fried Chicken Dinner fundraiser sponsored by CDA and JCDA and scheduled for March 3. It was decided that the meal would consist of three pieces of kettle fried chicken, giblet rice and green beans for a price of $13.
Mary Rose Barta gave a report on the diaper donations drive the court sponsored on January 20/21, as a pro-life project for Bethlehem Maternity Home in Victoria. It was reported that in addition to several monetary donations received, a total of over 1,000 diapers had been donated. The donations will be delivered to the maternity home in the near future by members Diane Hirsch, Sonya Lovejoy, and Mary Rose Barta.
Regent Nagelmueller announced that the bi-annual National Convention of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, on August 14 – 18. Our court is allowed to send five delegates to the convention. Any member who may be interested in attending is asked to contact the regent before the court’s next meeting on February 26.
It is to be noted that 2024 CDA membership dues in the amount of $30 are now payable and may be mailed to Financial Secretary Janet Pohl, 5072 FM 1891, Shiner, TX 77984.
