Shiner Police Dept. welcomes back officer John McInturf

The Shiner Police Department is proud to welcome back John McInturf to the force as the new patrol officer. McInturf started earlier this month and he is ready to serve his former community of Shiner.
McInturf has approximately 23 years of experience in law enforcement in the state of Texas and nine years’ experience of international police training. During that training, he was an instructor.
Fresh out of the marine corp, McInturf first started serving in Shiner in 1981.
“I was in the military police of the marine corp for four years,” McInturf said. “I worked here under Police Chief John Ideus. I then left and went to Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department where I was a Senior Deputy Sheriff there. I was also named deputy of the year there. After that, I came back to Shiner and worked under Chief Ronnie Leck. Then I became Chief of Police of Seadrift, Texas. Now, it’s good to be back home.”
McInturf said the community of Shiner has been very supportive and positive since his return this year.
“I came back because my wife is a native of Shiner and her family is here, so we decided to come back and settle in this town,” McInturf said. “There’s been a lot of old friends I’m catching up with here and the people of Shiner are genuinely good people. There’s been a lot of unique elements of the towns I have worked at, but I really like the community of Shiner and the people here. There’s been a lot of really welcoming and nice people in Shiner.”
McInturf gets plenty of joy serving as a police officer.
“From a very young age, I knew I wanted to go into law enforcement,” McInturf said. “I wanted to help people and serve the community. When I was young, the Boy Scouts of America had a program called “explorers” and I was in that. At that age, that experience certainly reinforced my calling to law enforcement.”
McInturf plans on finishing his career in law enforcement here in Shiner, whenever that may be he said.
The entire police department is proud to have Officer McInturf back in town.
“We worked together in the early 80s and I’ve known McInturf for over 40 years. I can say he has excellent character and we’re glad to have him back on the force,” Interim Police Chief Wayne Denson said.
