Pastor Herb Beyer New Board President of Hospice of South Texas

At their November 30th meeting, the Board of Directors for Hospice of South Texas elected the Rev. Herb Beyer of Hallettsville to serve as the incoming President beginning January 1, 2024. Pastor Beyer has served several years as a board member, and the last two years as Vice-President.

Pastor Beyer commented: “Hospice of South Texas is South Texas’s oldest local care provider and not-for-profit hospice, serving a 12-county area. As an area pastor and board member who has worked with HOST in a variety of ways during its 38 years of operation, I know the high quality of care provided to terminally ill patients and their families in private homes and other places of residence. Additionally, we operate the Dornburg Center of Compassion, a free-standing state-of-the-art in-patient facility that provides hospice patients with short-term medical care for symptom management.

I have witnessed the work of staff and volunteers, consistently striving to make HOST the best hospice care provider in our geographic area. This is certainly confirmed by the fact that Hospice of South Texas has once again scored Medicare’s highest 5-Star rating in quality care. For our staff and volunteers, it’s not simply a job, but a sacred calling in providing care and support—physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I am committed to working with Chief Executive Officer Michael Chavez, our board members, staff and volunteers to make sure our patients and their families consistently receive the best of care and in providing follow-up and grief support for family members after the death of a loved one.”

Pastor Beyer is Lead Pastor for the Tri-County Cooperative Ministries, ELCA, a cooperative ministry of five congregations, serving communities in Lavaca, Colorado and Fayette Counties. He is also founder and coordinator for the St. Nicholas Ministries in the tri-county area, helping needy children, their families and the elderly—providing new toys for children, boxes of food, blankets and other necessary items at Christmas. Pastor Beyer is founding president, board member and current Vice-President of Lavaca Assistance Ministry Body, a county-wide organization of churches helping the needy through the Manna Food Pantry, the Thrift Store and other forms of assistance. He is also President of the Hallettsville ISD Education Foundation, served several terms on the Hallettsville ISD School Board, and just completed his term as a board member of the Hallettsville Area Chamber of Commerce. He is a member and past President of Hallettsville’s Rotary Club. Pastor Beyer has also been active in numerous other community and church leadership positions.
