City Council hears request from Shiner Pilot Club at monthly meeting
The City of Shiner may be getting a new splash pad at Green-Dickson Park. However, this could be a long process.
Linda Vaclavik of the Shiner Pilot Club made this request at the Feb. 5th Shiner City Council meeting. She believes this would be a good thing for both the park and the youth.
“I think it would be great for Shiner,” Vaclavik said. “We know a lot of families take their kids to the Gonzales or Cuero parks. So, in the summer, I think this will be a great addition in Shiner. It would be a good project for us and the city. It would be a great thing for kids to have this available in Shiner.”
This splash pad would be a bit costly at $300,000. Out of that money, $150,000 would be used for the installation of the water system.
Along with council’s help, Vaclavik would like to reach out to corporations in Shiner for assistance with this project, including Kaspar Companies or Spoetzl Brewery.
She also would like to apply for some grants for assistance. Council opted to table this request for now.
Vaclavik also requested the addition of wheelchair accessibilities at the park and handicapped accessible swings. The cost for the wheelchair amenities would be $1,500 and the handicapped swing would be $800. Council did approve this request.
