Lady Bulldogs beat Sharkettes, fall to Tidehaven

The Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldogs lost to Tidehaven on Jan. 30 and defeated Palacios on Feb. 2. Madison Gonzales and Olivia Fojt each scored nine points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 39-23 win against the Sharkettes to improve the Lady Bulldog district record to 7-6. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bulldogs 34-28 over the last three quarters for a 41-36 win Jan. 30 in Tidehaven. Both teams scored eight points in the first quarter and Tidehaven led 19-12 at the break. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bulldogs 15-11 in the third quarter for a 34-23 lead before the Lady Bulldogs got back into the game with a 13-8 run in the fourth quarter. Jayana Phillips scored 16 points to pace the Lady Bulldogs while Tidehaven made 16 points from Mary  Johnson and 13 from Destiny Atkins.

Prior to games on Tuesday of this week, Columbus, and Yoakum are tied for fourth at 7-6.

According to Lady Bulldog Head Coach Ashton Phillips—  if Tidehaven, Columbus, and Yoakum all win, there will be a three-way tie breaker tournament Thursday or Friday. If Tidehaven loses and Columbus and Yoakum both win, Columbus and Yoakum will have a playin game for fourth place. If Tidehaven loses, Yoakum wins and Columbus loses, Tidehaven and Yoakum will have to have a play-in game. If one of Yoakum and Columbus loses and the other wins, the winner goes in fourth unless Tidehaven loses and then they will have to have a tie breaker with Tidehaven.
