Indians beat St. Paul, 66-61

SHINER – The game with St. Paul Thursday for the district championship was a lot closer than expected.

The Indians were able to pull out a 66-53 victory over the Cardinals with some effort. The Indians had defeated the Cards, 81-53, Feb. 8 in Hallettsville.

The Indians held a 45-40 lead going into the fourth quarter prior to SP tying the score at 45- all on a deuce and trey by Jack Ehrig.

The Indians started pulling away by outscoring the Cardinals 8-3 behind 4 points by Andrew Steffek and two each by Nic Angerstein and Hudson Kutac for a 55-48 advantage. The Indians continued with 5 more unanswered points

The Indians had an 18-17 lead at the end of the first period and a scant 31-29 at the intermission. Hudson Kutac scored 10 points in the first half and Zeke Rodriguez 10 for the Cardinals.

The Indians were able to take a five point lead at the end of the third quarter with the help of 5 points by Steffek and 4 by Angerstein.

Four players were in double figures for the Indians with Steffek scoring 26, Kutac 16, Angerstein 11 and Klayton Chance 10. The Cardinals, who start four freshmen, were led by Ehrig with 18 points and Rodriguez scoring 12.

SH 75, Waldorf 45

Four players were in double figures in the victory over Waldorf in Austin Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Hudson Kutac bucketed 21 points and Nic Angerstein, Ty Noska and Andrew Steffek all had 10 points in the easy win.
