Joy Lynn Machacek

SHINER: Joy Lynn Machacek, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024 with her family at her side. She was born December 11, 1953 in Sinton to the late Harold and Myrtle L. (Bengsch) Koenning.

Joy graduated from Shiner High School in 1972. She was a lifetime member of UDML Lutheran Church in Shiner where she was baptized and confirmed. She began her career in the Texas Prison System and she retired from Gonzales ISF-Intermediate Sanction Facility, after 25 plus years of service. She had a green thumb, loved baking for her family and dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

Survivors are her daughters, Catrina Mesa (Joe) and Candice Springfield (Shawn), both of Shiner; son, Colby Machacek (Nick) of San Marcos; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Barbara Lackey of Marion, Roberta Caka of Shiner, Claudine Hajek of Shiner and Claudette Ideus of Brazoria; brother, Harold Koenning Jr. of Shiner.

Preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carrie Koenning (1996); sisters, Merle Siegel and Carolyn Koenning; brother, Earl Koenning.

Visitation 5 to 7 p.m., with Prayer Service at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home.

Funeral Service 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2024 at UDML, Shiner Lutheran Church with Pastor Chris Heinold officiating. Burial to follow at Shiner Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Shiner Lutheran Church.
