Shiner baseball: Shiner baseball goes 3-1 at Columbus Tournament
The Comanches opened at Hallettsville and played four games in the Columbus Tournament.
Hall’ttsville 9, Shiner 3
The Shiner Comanches led 3-0 after one and half innings in their opener at Hallettsville on Feb. 19 before the Brahmas rallied for a 9-3 win.
Hallettsville closed the gap to 3-2 in the bottom of the second before going up 4-3 in the third frame. They outscored Shiner 1-0 in the fifth and 4-0 in the pivotal sixth inning.
Landyn Pohler started on the mound, went three innings, four runs, two hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Charlie Clifford worked two innings with one run on two hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Kaidan Boothe worked one inning, four runs, two hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Hallettsville held the Comanches to a single hit, a 1-for-4 effort by Clifford.
The Brahmas pitchers walked nine and hit five batters to aid Shiner’s offensive cause.
Caleb Cowan, Chase Malinovsky and Clayton Fric each scored one run.

Columbus Tournament
The Comanches went 3-1 in the Columbus Tournament.
Shiner 12, Lexington 2
With a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third, Shiner scored six runs and then three runs in the fifth to topple Lexington 12-1 in the tournament opener.
Shiner opened up a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Eagles scored a pair in the top of the third.
Clifford picked up the win on the bump with two runs, four hits, one walk and three strikeouts in four innings worked. Werner pitched one inning with two strikeouts.
The Comanches got 13 hits at the plate, led by Shows who was 3-for-4, two RBI, double and two runs, and Clifford who batted 3-for-4, RBI, double and run. Pohler and Werner each had two hits. Schuette and Boothe each plated two runs.

Fort Bend 5, Shiner 4
Fort Bend scored three runs in the top of the fifth and one run in the fifth to edge Shiner 5-4 in the Comanches’ lone loss of the tournament.
The score was 1-1 after one frame and Shiner was on top 3-1 after four frames.
The Comanches did score one run in the sixth to close the gap to one.
Schuette started the game at pitcher, went four innings with one run, one hit, four walks and seven strikeouts. Jake Simper took the loss with two innings worked, four runs on two hits, four walks and two strikeouts.
Schuette led at the plate by going 2-for-3, two RBI, three runs, double and home run. Caleb Lehnert scored one run. Shows, Pohler and Simper also got one hit.

The Comanches took down Cameron Yoe 5-1 in their third game. Shiner led 1-0 after one inning and outscored Yoe 3-1 in the third box before adding a single run in the sixth inning.
Boothe earned the win on the mound with two hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts in six frames; Pohler worked one inning with one hit and two strikeouts.
Carson Schuette hit 2-for-4 with one run; Cale Shows hit 1-for-2, two runs, one RBI and a double; Pohler batted 1-3 with one run, one RBI and double. Bode Werner was 1-for-3 with an RBI; Malinvosky scored one run; Boothe went 1-for-2.

Pohler pitched a five-inning, one-hit shutout with one walk and nine strikeouts to lead Shiner to a 10-0 win over Austin Waves in their final game of the tournament.
The Comanches scored six runs in the first inning and added four in the second frame.
Shiner had seven hits in the game — Boe Boehm was 3-for-3, two runs, one RBI; Werner went 2-for-3, two RBI, double, two runs; Cale Shows was 1-for-3, run, RBI; Boothe hit 1-for-2, two runs.
Clifford had one run, RBI; Pohler had two RBI; Schuette scored one run.
