Indians settle for 2nd in S'burg
SCHULENBURG – The Sacred Heart Indians finished second to Industrial in the Schulenburg Tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
In its final game Saturday, the Indians defeated Burton, 3-2.
Kellen Mechura started and worked 3.2 innings before giving way to Josh Terry.
Mechura gave up two hits, walked two and struck out two.
Terry threw the final 2.1 frames and allowed two hits, struck out two, walked one while ceding two hits.
The Tribe scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Dillon Goedrich walked on a full count, and Layne Sevcik singled. Goedrich scored on a bunt single by Wade Shimek. Sevcik scored on an error.
The Indians made it 3-0 in the third inning. Goedrich singled with one out before scoring on an infield out by Terry.
Burton had runners on first and third with two outs in the seventh inning before Terry induced a fly out to right field.
SH 12, Faith West 4 (4)
The Indians scored five runs in the first inning and six in the third in Thursday’s four inning victory over Katy Faith West.
The Indians had seven hits and capitalized on five Faith West errors.
Emerson Harvey went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs. Ty Noska doubled with a RBI and Dillon Goedrich and Kellen Mechura singled.
SH 2, Schulenburg 1
The Indians scored single runs in the third and fourth innings in the 2-1 victory Saturday morning.
Freshman Layne Sevcik pitched the five-inning game and surrendered only three hits, walked one and struck out five.
Dillon Goedrich drove in a run with a single and Jayden Schindler had the other RBI.
Emerson Harvey and Wade Shimek also had base hits.
There wasn’t much traffic on the bases and both teams stranded five baserunners.
Industrial 5, SH 4
Industrial rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth and final inning in the loss Thursday.
Three SH errors played a big part in the loss.
Dillon Goedrich started and went 5.1 innings, ceding four runs (one earned), six hits, and one base on balls.
Layne Sevcik was the loser in relief and worked a third of an inning.
Kellen Mechura drove in two runs with a single and Wade Shimek had the other with a base hit. Josh Terry, Bowen Hawkins, Goedrich and Sevcik hit safely.
