Indians edged by Tigers in 5th place game
Old high school teammates - Sacred Heart’s Mark Noska and Tidehaven’s Eddie Russell - met in the fifth place game of the Sacred Heart Booster Club Tournament Saturday.
Tidehaven prevailed, 3-2, after scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Indians scored runs in the third and fourth innings on run-scoring hits by Layne Sevcik and Wade Shimek.
Ty Noska threw 4.1 inning and was the hard luck loser. The sophomore right-hander gave up two hits, three runs (two earned), six bases on balls and struck out two
Josh Terry went 1.2 innings and ceded no hits, walked one and struck out one.
Terry and Emerson Harvey also had hits.
Both teams stranded five baserunners.
CC 2, SH 0
Ethan Harvey blanked the Indians with a fourhitter in Conroe Covenant’s 3-2 victory Saturday in a six -inning game.
Emerson Harvey took the loss for the Indians. He went 5.2 innings and gave up both runs, five hits and struck out four with two walks.
Dillon Goedrich got the final out in the sixth inning.
Goedrich singled with one out in the second, was wild pitched to second and third, but was left stranded.
The Indians had runners on first and third with one out in the fourth inning after Josh Terry doubled and Goedrich walked before nothing came of the threat.
The Indians had just one baserunner after the fourth frame.
Rockdale 5, SH 0
Rockdale knocked the Indians out of championship contention with a 5-1 victory Thursday.
Tiger pitcher Mason Willard shutout the Indians in the five inning game and gave up three hits.
Dillon Goedrich went the distance for SH and ceded five runs (two earned), five hits, walked two and fanned two.
The Indians passed up an excellent scoring opportunity in the first inning. Emerson Harvey and Ty Noska walked and Josh Terry was safe on an infield hit to load the bases with one out. But Willard recorded a strikeout and got a line drive out to short to end the inning.
The Indians also left runners at the corners in the fourth after a walk to Goedrich and a double by Hudson Kutac before Willard again avoided damage.
Indians 11, St. Joseph 1
Layne Sevcik tossed a one-hitter in the victory over Victoria St. Joseph Thursday.
A seven-run third inning was the culprit for the Flyers when the Indians sent 13 batters to the plate. Emerson Harvey knocked in two runs with a single, Wade Shimek got a run home with an infield out, Dillon Goedrich drove in a run with a base hit and Josh Terry reached on an outfield error to score a run. A Bowen Hawkins ground out also put across a run.
Noska had the only multi-hit game with two in two at-bats.
