Yoakum Literary Club meets, shares great reads
The Yoakum Literary Club met on Feb. 14 at the home of Jody Maneth.
Acting President Alvie Jimenez called the meeting to order and Sue Munsch read an invocation, “Day by Day” by Billy Graham, followed by a prayer. The minutes from the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved by the members
Secretary Janet Adamek read correspondence she received.
Elizabeth Payne and Jody Maneth reported on upcoming events in Victoria and at the Yoakum Museum.
Refreshments were served by hostesses Elizabeth Payne and Jody Maneth.
The book the club read was Saved by Benjamin Hall. Mertes Culak provided a review of the true story from a Fox News reporter injured in a bombing in the Ukraine, his struggle to survive, and the return to his family.
The next meeting will be March 13 at the home of Annalyn Karl. The book to be reviewed is For Love and Glory by Cindy Bonner
It is about a civilian pilot from Texas who joins the RAF at the start of World War II before America entered the fight. The story follows his struggle to survive and return home following the war. Author Cindy Bonner (formerly of Yoakum) is planning to attend the luncheon meeting and discuss the book.
