Shiner Heritage Quilters host “Spring into Quilting” show
The Shiner Heritage Quilters Guild held their 2024 “Spring into Quilting” show this past weekend. About 350 people from all over the country including Wisconsin, Iowa, Montana, and even Germany came and participated in the quilt show.
“The show was wonderful,” Guild President Janet Ferguson said. “We had 96 quilts including youth quilted, hand quilted, and machine quilted quilts. Everybody that walked out the door said it was wonderful. We are very proud, and it was a very good show.”
The winner for the large machine quilt was made by Mary Shafer and her piece was titled “Bee Vintage.”
Other categories included large hand quilts, small machine quilts, small hand quilts, and youth quilts.
There were eight vendors at the show who sold quilt related items including sewing machines.
“The vendors who came through were really happy and they made enough money to cover their entries,” Ferguson said.
This was the first year for the show to feature a silent auction. “We had some very nice items in the auction including a quilt cabinet worth about $300”, Ferguson said.
The show also broke a record for the raffles that were held. Half of the money from the raffle quilt went towards donations for places in Shiner like the Public Library or the Fire Station.
Overall, the Shiner Heritage Quilters Guild made over $5,000 from raffle ticket sales and around $800 from the entry table.
Recently, city officials made a proclamation claiming March as Shiner’s Quilt Month. National Quilt Day is on March 20.
The Shiner Heritage Quilters Guild has been around since 2003 and Ferguson has acted as president since 2018.
The ladies participate in various activities related to quilting and even teach a youth quilter’s class in the summer.
“We’re very proud of what we do and the people who come up and help this organization,” Ferguson said.
