YHS Lady Bulldogs win one, tie one

    The Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldogs scored 11 runs in the top of the first and rolled to a 12-1 win against Rice March 5 in Rice.

    Olivia Fojt went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three runs and six RBI. Madisen Grant batted 2-for-2, RBI, and two runs. Lexi Zaruba was 2-for-3, a double, and a run. Madilynn Steinmann struck out 10 batters with two hits, one run, three walks in five innings pitched. Zaruba had three putouts.

    Yoakum fielding/defense: Zaruba, 3 putouts; Fojt, 1 putout; Maddie Carroll, 1 putout; Steinmann, 2 assists; Kilynn Poole, 1 assist.

    The Lady Bulldogs and Indianettes shared 18 runs in a 9-9 tie.

    The Lady Bulldogs led 4-2 after one inning and the game was 8-8 after two frames. Sacred Heart went ahead 9-8 in the third and Yoakum rallied for a tie in the fourth frame.

    Macie Blakeney was 3-for-3, two runs, two doubles; Steinmann finished 2-for-3, 2 RBI, double, and a triple. Fojt hit a home run, scored three total runs, and had three RBI. Schultz pitched one inning with six runs on three hits, three walks, and one strikeout. Steinmann worked two innings, three hits, three runs, walk, and three strikeouts. Schultz had one putout and one assist on defense.
