Adela Siegel Filip

Adela Siegel Filip of Moravia passed away of natural causes after a six-month illness, on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 9:02 p.m. at Shady Oak Nursing and Rehabilitation in Moulton.  She attained the age of 87 years, 6 months and 2 days. She was a lifelong resident of Moravia. 

She was born on Sept. 10, 1936, in Shiner to William “Bill’ and Anastasia Vincik Siegel. 
She attended St. Ludmila’s Catholic School in Shiner. 

On Oct. 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to Marvin E. Filip at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner. Adela was a CNA/CMA at Shady Oak Nursing and Rehab Center for 40 years. She was a Catholic and a member of the KJZT for 50+ years. She was a homemaker and loved having her family around and enjoyed canning.

Adela is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Filip Young (David); Kathryn Filip Pilat (Patrick); Rose Ann Filip Brosh (Thomas), Donna Marie Filip (Brenda), all of Moravia; daughter-in-law, Henrietta Filip of Moravia; son, Edward James Filip of Moravia; sister-in-law, Carolyn Siegel of Shiner; brothers, Joe J. Siegel (Betty) and Jerry G. Siegel (Judy) of Shiner,  and Dennis R. Siegel (Carol) of St. John; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anastasia Siegel; her husband, Marvin E. Filip; son, Franklin W. Filip, and brothers, William Siegel Jr. and Robert J. Siegel.

Rosary, led by Diane Broussard, Denise Leist, and Danette Siegel, was recited at 7 p.m.,  Friday, March 15 at Schwenke and Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 16 at the Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia. Rev. Michael Rother officiated. Interment followed in the Moravia Catholic Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Dwayne Young (grandson); Nathan and Keith Pilat (grandsons); Michael Brosh (grandson);  Noe Barrera (stepson); and Dustin Haweliwala (grandson).

Honorary pallbearers were Dennis Siegel (brother); Carolyn Siegel (sister-in-law); Eric, Brandon, Wade, and Greg Siegel (nephews); Stacie Siegel Schramek (niece); 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren. 

Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg was in charge of arrangements.
