Indians lose to Comanches
Two errors and too many runners left on base told the story in the Sacred Hear Indians’ 4-0 loss to Shiner here Friday afternoon.
The Comanches had just four hits. On the other hand, the Indians had only two hits and left seven on base.
SH had no hits until the fifth inning. The Indians (8-5) had runners on second and third with no outs in the fifth inning after Dillon Goedrich walked and Hudson grounded a single to left. But Comanche pitcher Bode Werner struck out two and got the other batter to pop up to the shortstop.
In the sixth inning, the Indians loaded the bases with one put. Ty Noska drew a base on balls,and Josh Terry ensured with a double down the right field line and Wade Shimek walked to fill the bases. However, reliever Jake Simper came and got the next two outs.
Three Shiner pitchers combined on the two hitter and struck out nine.
Layne Sevcik was the hard-luck loser and went 6.2 innings before giving way to Terry and Noska.
Sevcik ceded two unearned runs, two hits, walked four and fanned two.
Terry went a third of an inning and Noska finished up with 1.2 innings.
Shiner (12-5) scored its four runs with two in the second inning and two in the seventh.
In the second frame, Werner led off with a single and with one out, Kaiden Boothe was safe on an error to plate Werner. Sevcik walked the next three batters in a row to score in Boothe.
Landry Pohler singled in a run and Charlie Clifford hit a sacrifice fly.
