Shiner softball: Lady Comanches complete season sweep of Weimar, Flatonia

The Shiner Lady Comanches softball team edged Weimar at home and won at Flatonia last week to complete district sweeps of both teams.

Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning after Paeden Vincik hit a sacrifice lineout to second base to score Brinley Ramirez and with one runner on, Kailey Boedeker hit a two-run homer to put the Lady Comanches up 3-1 and it would be enough to complete the season sweep over Weimar.
The Lady Wildcats managed to score one run in the second inning but noting further in a 3-2 win for Shiner.
Weimar opened scoring at its first time at bat with a single run on a double and single.
Shiner was held to just two hits — Rylee Vancura got the other hit.
Lauren Springfield pitched 5 1/3 innings with five hits, two runs, two walks and a strikeout. Siegel finished up with 1 2/3 innings, a walk and two strikeouts.
Vancura had eight putouts.

FLATONIA — In the first three innings against Flatonia, Shiner scored four runs on four hits.
The Lady Comanches bats came alive in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring nine runs on 11 hits to run rule the Lady ‘Dogs 13-1 on Thursday.
Shiner finished with 15 hits with one home run, three triples and three doubles.
“Our timing and being able to adjust to a different velocity and style of pitching than we have seen in the last three games,” Shiner head coach Jason Keller said. “It can be hard. You hope after the first time through and the second time through, you can adjust and be successful in the last at-bats. By the time we get around to the third time and have not figured it out then we may struggle. The girls figured it out really quick and made quick adjustments.” 
With the win, the Lady Comanches get the season sweep over Flatonia and continue to head up the district.
“We say that our next game is our biggest game. We came out here, knowing this is our biggest game today. I felt like we did a good job finishing,” junior outfielder Callie Sevcik said.
Springfield and Dyllan Chrismon combined in the circle to hold Flatonia to half a dozen hits and a single run. The defense had no errors and were led in the field by  Vancura who made five putouts.
“Pitching was great. Our two pitchers threw strikes and our defense played well. That always gives us a great chance to win,” Keller said. “Our pitchers always do well in hitting their locations and following the plan, reading the scouting report.”
Siegel started things in the top of the fourth with a one-out infield single. Paeden Vincik drew a walk and Boedeker doubled in Siegel for a 5-0 lead.
With two outs, Sevcik scored runner Jo Caka and Boedeker on a single before going home on a Chrismon hit.
In the top of the fifth, Ramirez hit her second triple of the game and went home on a Vancura triple.
Siegel brought in Vancura before Vincik hit a two-run homer for a 12-0 lead. Boedeker singled and scored on a Hailey Radicke hit.
Flatonia erased the shutout in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out double by Emma Kosler and she scored on Brealey Nieto hit.
Ramirez opened the game with a triple and scored on a passed ball before Vancura was walked. She also scored on a passed ball. Later, Vincik was walked and Caka scored on a hit by Boedeker.
Shiner did not score in the second frame and in the third, Radicke had a two-out single and went home on the Sevcik double.
