Moulton softball: Kittens rout Bloomington, fall to Schulenburg
Moulton went 1-1 last week in district tilts against Bloomington and Schulenburg.
Moulton 22, Bloomington 7
Clinging to a 10-7 lead entering the top of the fifth frame, the Kittens brought in a dozen runs on the way to a 22-7 blasting of Bloomington March 26 in Bloomington.
Moulton led 3-1 after one inning but trialed 6-5 after two frames before tying up the score at 6-6 after three.
The Kittens took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the fourth.
Moulton got 22 hits with four players getting a trio of hits. Araceli Vasquez was 3-for-5, two doubles, two runs, two RBI and Taylor Self went 3-for-4 with three runs, double and two RBI while Addison Simper and Karsyn Blahuta each got three hits.
Simper started at pitcher, going 1 2/3 innings with six runs on three hits, five walks and three strikeouts. Bethany Kram closed out with 3 1/3 innings with one hit, one run, a walk and six strikeouts.
The Kittens’ defense was led by Katie Richter who had two putouts.

Schulenburg scored eight runs in the top of the first and Moulton was unable to fully catch up, falling 19-9.
The Lady Shorthorns got 15 hits and were aided by Moulton’s 12 errors.
The Kittens trailed 8-3 after the first inning and got within 10-7 after two frames.
Schulenburg outscored Moulton 2-1 in the third, 3-0 in the fifth square and 4-1 in the seventh inning.
Simper led the Kittens at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs and stealing seven bases.
Kram pitched the whole game with 11 walks and five strikeouts.
On defense, Self had three putouts and two assists with Richter getting three putouts.
