Indians 2-0 in District
Sacred Heart notched its second TAPPS District 5 Division IV victory with a 9-1 victory over Bulverde Bracken Christian School here Friday.
The issue was in doubt until the Indians scored seven runs in fifth inning in four hits, an error and four walks.
Winning pitcher Layne Sevcik walked to start the fifth inning and was driven home on a base hit by Kellen Mechura. Klayton Chance put down a squeeze bunt to score Mechura. Another suicide squeeze by Hudson Kutac scored Mechura. Ty Noska singled to right to score Kutac.
Sevcik (5-2) went five plus innings and ceded one run, only three hits, walked seven and recorded five strikeouts. Emerson Harvey threw the final two innings and surrendered no hits, walked two and fanned two in the two hour and 12 minute game.
The Indians put across a run in the top of the first inning. Kutac was hit by a pitch at the onset before being erased on a fielder’s choice by Ty Noska. Emerson Harvey walked and he and Noska moved up a base on a balk before Josh Terry’s sacrifice fly getting Noska to the plate.
The Indians scored a run in the third inning on a RBI double by Terry for a 2-0 lead.
Bracken (16-4-1, 0-2) scored its only run in the fourth inning on Noah Mires’ double.
The Indians had nine hits with Harvey going three-for-four. Wade Shimek also singled.
Beau Martin had two hits for the Warriors.
