53rd annual Fiddlers Frolics April 26-28

The 53rd annual Fiddlers Frolics will take place April 26-28, with a top cast of entertainers lined up to appear all three days, as well as the best fiddler players in Texas as well as some from out of state.

A jam session will kick things off Friday afternoon, April 26 starting a 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m. the traditional Cajun Fun Night will begin and offer a menu of crawfish, gumbo, red beans and rice as well as hamburgers available throughout the evening.

Organizers of Frolics have lined up a wealth of entertainment for the inside of the hall with the Cajun duo of Boudreaux and Pousson performing at 6:15 p.m. and again 8 p.m.

Also appearing during the evening at 6:45 p.m. will be Charles Thibodeaux and The Austin Aces. At 9:15 p.m. Jean-Pierre Blanchard and Zydeco Angels will be on stage and closing out the night, Jess Legge and The Bosco Stomp will perform at 10:30 p.m.

Admission for inside the hall entertainment is $15 per ticket.

Performing from 7 to 10 p.m. will be local group, Broken Alibi, who will provide music free to the public under the pavilion.

On Saturday, April 27, a noon meal consisting of roast beef and sides will be served for $12 per plate.

In addition, different fiddle contest divisions will take place throughout the morning and afternoon.

Under the pavilion outside the hall, Cactus Country will perform from noon to 5 p.m. with the entertainment free to the public.

Inside the hall on Saturday night, The Bar Ditch Hippies and Broken Alibi will open the show prior to the award winning recording group, Diamond Rio, appearing on stage. The bands will perform from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Diamond Rio has three albums that have achieved RIAA platinum certification in the United States.

The well-known recording group has received four Group of the Year awards from the Country Music Association, two Top Vocal Group awards from the Academy of Country Music, and one Grammy Award.

Activities continue Sunday morning, April 28 with Fiddlers’ Frolics Hall of Fame induction taking place along with the Senior division fiddle contest, where contestants 65 years or older, will compete.

The highlight of the event will take place Sunday afternoon with the Texas State Fiddle contest.

Fiddle contestants from throughout Texas will perform to see who will wear the crown as this year’s state champion fiddler.

The fiddlers will compete throughout the afternoon and will culminate with the Cliff & Velda Fryer championship playoff starting around 5 p.m.

Sunday under the pavilion will the Christian Country Music Ministry will lead morning worship service and will be followed by Tony Booth performing in the afternoon followed by Justin Trevino.

Along with all the musical entertainment taking place, the weekend will also offer the barbecue contest as well as arts & crafts booths and various types of food booths available.
