Local student’s creative designs showcased

As April marks Autism Awareness month, the talents of John Moore have twice garnered attention while serving as an expression of his personal journey with autism. John attends Shiner ISD at the DLSEC Rise Campus in Yoakum.
Moore crafted an Autism Awareness design that now adorns shirts and window decals for a local fundraiser. He reimagined the traditional puzzle piece, commonly associated with autism awareness, into a human figure to serve as a symbol of solidarity and understanding.
Reflecting on his inspiration for the Autism Awareness shirt design, Moore said, “I want people to understand how we are different and how things can be hard for us.”
Additionally, Moore’s artistic abilities led his design to be chosen as the official ‘I Voted’ sticker in the Lavaca County ‘I Voted’ contest held earlier in 2 0 2 3 . This first year contest, open to students from grades 6 to 12, recreated the I Voted sticker design shared by those visiting Lavaca County voting stations.
Moore’s winning entry includes red and white stripes, stars in a blue sky, and an eagle perched next to the Texas Panhandle.
“I enjoyed the projects. I love to make art,” shared Moore as he stood over his craft board completing the preparation of the window decals.
