St. Paul softball: Lady Cardinals sweep DH with Brentwood

    The Lady Cardinals softball team beat Austin Brentwood Christian 10-5 and 11-0 Thursday in a home doubleheader.
    St. Paul 10, Brentwood Christian 5 (Game 1)
    Brooke Cerny hit 3-for-4 with one home run, double, five RBI and scored twice as St. Paul won the opener 10-5. Stefany Pokluda was 3-for-4, triple, two runs and an RBI with Presley Tuch going 3-for-4, run and double.
    Tatum Walker struck out 10 batters while yielding five runs on seven hits and walking seven. Tuch had seven putouts in the field.
    St. Paul led 3-0 after one inning and 4-1 after two squares. They plated twice in the third frame and outscored Brentwood 4-1 in the fifth inning.
    Brentwood got three runs in the top of the seventh.

    Tuch pitched a two-hit shutout with a pair of walks and had 10 strikeouts in the Lady Cards’ 11-0 win in four innings in the second game.
    St. Paul scored four runs in the first and second innings for an 8-0 lead before plating twice in the third and one more in the fourth.
    Addy Matias was the lone multi hitter going 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Sally Machacek and Stefany Pokluda each scored two runs.
    Matias had two putouts on defense.
