Don Zander
Don Zander, 77, of San Antonio, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2024.
He was born on October 17, 1946 in Shiner, where he grew into a fine young man. After graduating from Shiner High School, Don attended the University of Texas at Austin. His professional career began in 1968 as an employee of Great Western Finance. This 10 year career brought Don to numerous locations in Texas, and ultimately landed his young family in Kerrville.
In 1978, Don joined the Benson organization as Controller at Hill Country Motors. His tenure with Tom Benson’s organization lasted 41 years taking him to various assignments in San Antonio; Greenville, SC; and New Orleans, LA, with his final position as CFO for the Benson Automotive Division before retiring in March of 2019.
Don had numerous interests that included travel, hunting, fishing, and sports. His favorite sport was baseball, and he had the fortune to attend several College Baseball World Series games as well as the 2014 MLB World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals.
Don was full of life and brought laughter, joy and light to every encounter. His life will be celebrated at a date to be determined.
Survivors include his daughter, Sherry Zander; and brother, Arlen Zander and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Lillie Zander; and brother, Elton Franklin.
