Monday a.m. accident sends one to hospital

A two-vehicle accident Monday morning at the intersection of Fourth and S. Texana streets sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries.

According to the Hallettsville Police Department, the accident took place around 7:30 a.m. when a white 2018 Ford Eco Sport driven by Abigal Hill, 17, of Yoakum traveled south on Texana St. and at the same time, a blue 2024 Hyundai Palisade, driven by Leslie Thomas, 37, of Yoakum was headed east on Fourth St.

The report said the Eco Sport failed to yield to a red traffic light and the Hyundai T-boned it on the passenger side causing Hill’s vehicle to turn on its side.

Hill was the lone occupant in the Eco Sport and was taken to Lavaca Medical Center for minor injuries by the Lavaca County EMS.

Thomas and her three juvenile passengers were uninjured.

The Hallettsville Police Department was assisted by a citizen, Joe Vaccaro.

The HPD would like to thank Vaccaro for his quick thinking and selfless actions.

“He played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of everyone involved,” the HPD report said. “We are incredibly grateful for his support. We presented Vaccaro with a Hallettsville Police Department challenge coin as a token of our appreciation.”
