EMS Week celebrates 50 years

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, May 19-25, honors all fire and EMS workers. City Mayor Carl O’Neill presented a proclamation on behalf of the City Council to the Yoakum Fire/EMS Department acknowledging how Emergency Medical Services play a vital role in our community and surrounding areas.

Access to quality emergency care dramatically inproves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury. EMS plays a critical role in public outreach and injury prevention and is evolving in its role as an important member of the healthcare profession.

First responders , emegency medical technicians, and paramedics stand ready to provide compassionate, lifesaving care to those in need around the clock, and are supported by firefighters, educators, administrators, researchers, nurses, emergency physicians, and many other professionals.

The members of the Yoakum Fire/EMS Department engage in many hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance the lifesaving skills they provide to individuals. This year’s theme for National EMS Week is “Honoring our Past, Forginf our Future.”

The City Council proclaimed the week of May 19-25 as Emergency Medical Services Week and calls upon all of the citizens of the community to join the City of Yoakum, along with the rest of the nation, in recognizing the men and women that provide the outstanding emergency care to our loved ones.

We thank all of these individuals for their hard work and dedication to the citizens of this outstanding city and recognize the lifesaving abilities each of these remarkable people brings to our community.
