Evelyn Hoffer

Evelyn Hoffer, 96, of Hallettsville, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024.  
She was born June 12, 1928, to Alvin and Annie Schneider, the first of six children. 
On Feb. 21, 1950, she married Leo Hoffer Jr. and together they raised four children.

Evelyn attended Pleasant Grove and Radhost Country Schools and graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1946. 
She was a proud graduate of the first Vocational Nursing Class at Renger Memorial Hospital.  
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, KJZT, and Catholic Daughters of Americas and served on the Parish Council.
Evelyn eventually quit her nursing career to help her husband with his trucking business dispatching trucks hauling cotton from Texas throughout the southern states and as far as North Carolina.  
In 1979, they purchased Hoffer’s Drive-In Grocery, from Leo’s brother, Nick and it has been in the Hoffer family for the past 70 years.
Over the years, Evelyn enjoyed spending her weekends at the ranch, riding around with Leo checking cattle, hunting and spending time with her family and friends.
Evelyn is survived by  her four children, Beverly Wagner, Sherry Hale, Lee Hoffer and Carol Woytek; six grandchildren, Cory Davis, Jaime (Pat) Flynn, Joel (Holly) Wagner, Michael Heath (Tammy) Hale, Brandon Woytek and Dusty Woytek; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Aubrey and Paige Davis, Lauren and Erin Flynn; three sisters, Georgie Bludau, Dollie Leopold and Elaine (Guntram) Janak.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Willie Mae Peterson; brother, Alvin Schneider Jr.;  son-in-law, Daniel F. Wagner; brothers-in-law, Frank Leopold and Dr. Don Peterson, and sister-in-law, Judith Schneider.
Visitation began at 9:30 a.m., and Rosary was recited at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville.  
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:30 a.m.,Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Entombment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
 Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic School or a charity of donor’s choice.
