Sacred Heart Catholic School welcomed 319 students to the first day of classes on Thursday, Aug. 8 with the total count one less than the previous year.

According to SHCS principal Kevin Haas, they had 20 students in grades 3K, 23 in 4K, 174 in K–8, and 102 in high school, which is five more than last year.

“We would like to give a special welcome to the new students and their parents who will be attending Sacred Heart Catholic School for the first time,” Haas said.

Haas reported they had 26 new students in Pre-kindergarten, 10 in grades K-8, and 16 in high school for a total of 52 new students.

“We welcome them to the Sacred Heart Catholic School Family,” Haas said. “We would like to thank the Hallettsville, Ezzell, La Grange, Moulton, Schulenburg, Sweet Home, Vysehrad, Weimar, Yoakum, Columbus, Rice, Rock Island, Sheridan, and Victoria communities for their continued support of our educational programs. Students attend Sacred Heart from these communities and their kindness and generosity has provided our school the necessary means and resources to give our students an excellent well-rounded Catholic education.”

The first day began with a special opening day assembly held for the high school and junior high students. The opening assemblies included welcoming of new students and faculty and review of school policies.
