Shiner volleyball: Shiner spikers win Bronze bracket at Rice Tournament

    The Shiner Lady Comanches won six of eight matches at the Rice Tournament and won the Bronze bracket.
    Saturday bracket play
    Shiner 2, Tidehaven 0
    The Lady Comanches played Tidehaven in the Bronze semifinals, taking a 28-26, 25-8 win.

    The Lady Comanches beat Hallettsville in three (25-23, 15-25, 25-23) in the bronze bracket final.

    Friday Pool E play
    On Friday, the Lady Comanches were grouped into Pool E after going 1-2  and third place in Pool A on Thursday. Shiner won the pool with wins over Giddings, Hallettsville and Van Vleck, all three either 3A or 4A.
    Shiner 2, Giddings 1
    Giddings rallied to win the opening set, 25-23 and Shiner came back to win sets two and three, 25-20 and 15-4.
    In the first game, Shiner took a 23-19 lead after a Harlee Sevcik ace before the Lady Buffaloes went on a 6-0 run.
    In the second set, a kill and ace from Callie Sevcik and a Chesney Machacek kill put Shiner 7-3.
    Later, the Lady Comanches went on a 5-0 run from 10-6 up with two kills by JaMya Wright, a Harlee Sevcik block.  Giddings then scored five straight points before Shiner scored 10 of the next 18 points to take the second set.
    In the third game, Machacek had a block and Harlee Sevcik made a kill as the Lady Comanches scored five of the first seven points and then went on a 5-1 run and then outscored Giddings 5-1 to take the game and the match.

    For the third tournament in a row, Shiner faced Hallettsville and for the second tournament in a row, took a 2-1 win, 23-25, 25-22, 15-11. Callie Sevcik had 13 kills in the match.
    In the first set, Hallettsville took a 10-6 lead and Shiner went on a 8-1 run with serves and a couple of aces from Kylynn Ramirez and a couple of kills from Callie Sevcik.
    The Lady Brahmas responded with a 10-4 run.
    Shiner got within 21-20 before Hallettsville finished the set with a four of seven points.
    In the second game, the Lady Brahmas grabbed an early lead at 9-6, only for Shiner to outscore them 5-1 to lead 11-10.
    Later the game was 20-20 before Shiner went on a 5-2 run with a kill and a block from Callie Sevcik providing the last two points.
    In the third set, the Lady Comanches were down 10-8 before outscoring Hallettsville 7-1 with the serves of Paisly Wallace and and a Jones block.

    The Lady Comanches dominated Van Vleck 25-12 and 25-12 to end their day on Friday.
    After sharing the first eight points of the first set, Shiner went on a 7-0 run and after the Lady Leopards scored three straight, the Lady Comanches went on another run, this one going 10-2 with two aces by Machacek, a Wright kill and a Callie Sevcik kill. 
    Kylynn Ramirez had two late aces to wrap up the game.
    In the second set, a Jones block and serves from Jo Caka gave Shiner a 10-3 lead.
    Shiner later led 20-7 after another Wright kill, a Riley Fluitt ace, another Kylynn Ramirez ace and Wright kill.
    The teams split the next 10 points to end the game and the match.

    The Lady Comanches lost the first set of their final pool-play match but rallied for a 2-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-18) win over Tidehaven. Machacek put down 11 kills and JaMya Wright added nine kills.
