Gussie Walla

Gussie (Augustina) Walla, 86, of Smithville, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024. 
A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Monday, September 9 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 10 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, with the Rev. Michael Odartey-Lamptey officiating. 
Burial followed at Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
She was born on October 7, 1937 in Shiner, to the late Laddie and Augustina (Drabek) Patek.
Gussie graduated from high school and attended business school. She entered nursing school and for the next 46 years she devoted herself to nursing, first at Renger Memorial Hospital in Hallettsville then a Pediatric Clinic and Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston and Care Inn Nursing Home in La Grange. Gussie was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Smithville and a member of the Altar Society and KJZT.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Serejch (Jiri) of Seattle, Washington; two sons, Jason Walla (Sharon) of Cedar Park, and Todd Walla (Laura) of Blanco; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Haack (Quaid), Avery, Jacie, Madison, Jacob and Emily Walla; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Rylie Haack; sister, Ann Wagner (Bill) of Victoria; brother, Kenneth Walla (Jeanette) of El Campo; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful four legged companion, Peanut.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Walla; her parents; sisters, Agnes Schlenker and Mary Smith; and brothers, Edward, Laddie and Johnnie Patek.
Memorials may be given to Shiner Catholic School.
