Court holds Tuesday meeting
Approves juvenile offenders agreements; sets county meeting/holiday schedule
The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in its regular meeting on Tuesday and addressed residential service of juvenile offenders as well as setting the fiscal year’s meeting times and county holidays.
The court approved a short-term detention agreement of juvenile offenders for the Lavaca County Juvenile Probation Department and Guadalupe County Juvenile Services Facility.
The term of the agreement runs from Oct. 1, 2024 through Sept. 30, 2025 with a daily rate of $250 per day/ per child.
The court approved long-term residential service of juvenile offenders agreements between the Lavaca County Juvenile Probation Department and the Gulf Coast Trades Center as well as Rites of Passage Inc. that include contract facilities of The Oaks at Brownwood, Lake Granbury Youth Services and Monarch Academy for Girls.
Both agreements started on Sept. 1, 2024 and run through Aug. 31, 2025.
The cost for service with the Gulf Coast Center is $275 per day, while The Oaks at Brownwood is $295, Lake Granbury Youth Services is $295 and Monarch Academy for Girls is $325 per day.
A fourth agreement approved by the court included an Interlocal Agreement for detention of juvenile offenders between the Fort Bend County Juvenile Board and the 2nd 25th Judicial District Juvenile Probation Board serving Lavaca, Gonzales and Colorado Counties.
This agreement runs from Oct. 1, 2024 to Sept. 30, 2025 and is set at $175 per day.
Meeting Dates
The court set meeting dates for the fiscal year 2024-25 that include meeting on the second and fourth Monday in December 2024, January, February, April, June, July and August 2025.
The court will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 16 and Monday, Oct. 28; Tuesday, Nov. 12 and Monday, Nov. 25 during the remaining dates of 2024.
In March 2025, the court will meet on Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 25; Monday, May 12 and Tuesday, May 27; and Monday, Sept. 8 and Tuesday, Sept. 23.
County Judge Keith Mudd said the reason for the meeting dates falling on Tuesday is due to district court sessions to be held on the Mondays. Also, the Wednesday, Oct. 16 meeting is because of a holiday on Monday, Oct. 14 and a district court session set for Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The court set the Lavaca County holiday dates for 2025 that include:

• Monday, Sept. 1 – Labor Day.
• Monday, Oct. 13 – Columbus Day;
• Tuesday, Nov. 11 – Veterans Day;
• Thursday, Nov. 27 – Thanksgiving Day;
• Friday, Nov. 28 – Day after Thanksgiving;
• Thursday, Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve;
• Friday, Dec. 25 – Christmas Day.
• Wednesday, Dec. 31 – New Year’s Eve.
In other action taken by the court:
• Accepted a presentation of Buy Board Purchasing Cooperative from Vickie Sutton, Buy Board Service consultant.
• Approved social media policy.
• Approved the sale of a 20214 Dodge Ram 3500 Frazer Ambulance to Wharton County in the amount of $10,000.
• Approved Texans Feeding Texans home delivered meals grant resolution authorizing county grant program for 2025.
• Approved disbursement of the county’s cash match of $1,534.50 for home delivered meals grant agreement with the Texas Department of Agriculture to Community Connections.
• Approved all consent agenda items.
County Judge Keith Mudd presided over the meeting with commissioners Edward Pustka and Wayne Faircloth present for the meeting.
