HVFD answers to fires
The Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department answered to a couple of fires this past week with one involving a grass fire and the other a tractor.
According to a report from HVFD chief Stephen Grahmann, HVFD was called to a fire on Thursday, Oct. 3 around 6:45 p.m. regarding a tractor on fire in the 1000 block of CR 15A.
Grahmann reported that when HVFD arrived at the scene, they found the tractor was fully engulfed in flames.
He said firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which only contained the tractor.
Grahmann said the renter of the land (Kris Hyder) was shredding the property with the landowner’s (Bobby Vick) John Deere tractor when it caught on fire.
He said the estimated loss of the tractor amounted to around $30,000.
Grahmann said the department received an open pasture grass fire call at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 that was taking place in 500 block of CR 235.
He said when HVFD arrived they found a medium fire occurring and it was quickly extinguished.
Grahmann said the fire was believed to have been caused by power lines.
