GVEC Power Up Grant allows HISD to light parking lot

As a result of Hallettsville Independent School District receiving a Guadalupe Valley Electric (GVEC) Co-Op power up grant, the district was able to complete the lighting of the parking lot located east of the Hallettsville High and Elementary school campuses.

“We (HISD) requested GVEC’s assistance in funding an LED lighting project aimed at creating safer school campuses for students, teachers, staff members, and visitors to our school,” superintendent Dr. Jo Ann Bludau said. “One of our district’s strategic goals is to provide safe, efficient and appropriate educational facilities to meet the needs of the school community.”

Bludau said the district feels fortunate in receiving the Power Up grant from GVEC to support the lighting projects in the district.

“Initially, our funds were to be used in three specific areas including the Brahma Trail, Hallettsville Elementary/High School, and Hallettsville Jr. High School,” Bludau said. “With the approval of a building bond supporting renovations at the junior high school, the focus for the use of grant funds moved to lighting the east side of the elementary, high school and the Brahma Trail.”

Regarding safety and security needs identified within the district, Bludau said the school board took on the challenge to put in a new paved and lit parking lot for student and staff parking.

“The gated parking lot connects the HES/HHS campuses to the Brahma Trail and the new LED lighting illuminates the entire east side of the elementary and high school campus as well as the entrance leading to the Brahma Trail.,” Bludau said. “In acknowledgement of the generous support from GVEC and the Power Up program, a sign will be in place near the parking lot of the schools to recognize the support. On behalf of the Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees, students and staff, we thank you for your generous donation to our school to help ensure the safety and security of HISD Brahmas.”
