Bryan Brazos Christian at St. Paul
The Cardinals play their third overall and second district home game as undefeated Brazos Christian comes to town.
The Eagles are very stout on both sides of the football.
They have scored 35.5 points a game and yielded just 10.4 points a game.
Brazos Christian is balanced on offense with 179.3 yards passing a game and 215.0 rushing yards a game and average 394 yards a game overall on offense.
Quarterback Cooper Murr had completed 73-of-135 passes for 1,255 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. He is also the leading rusher with 599 yards on 95 carries, 85.6 a game, 8.6 average and nine touchdowns. The Eagles’ chief receiver is Truett Goodyk who has 564 yards on 26 catches for 21.7 average and six touchdowns.
Cardinals head coach Barry Wolf said Brazos Christian will line up in a variety of formations including one-back, two-back and no back.
“Key will be to stop Cooper Murr. He is not big but he can run and throw,” he said. “We will have to play very well on defense.”
Ty Urban leads the defense with 42 tackles, all solo and 7.0 tackles for loss. Grant Boehm had  total tackles, 30 solo tackles and one assist with 6.0 tackles for loss. Ben Tillery has 8.0 tackle for loss. Brody Garner has 8.0 sacks and nine recovered fumbles. Isaiah Perkins leads the team with five interceptions.
“It will be very important for our offensive line to maintain blocking well in this game,” Wolf said.
Shiner at Pettus
The Comanches are at Pettus this week for district.
The Eagles are winless after seven games (0-2 in district play). Pettus is scoring just 14.4 points a game and defense is yielding 47.28 points a game.
Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said Pettus will run an offense Shiner has not seen yet this season.
“They run a Wing-T offense which is different than what we have seen. They have size on both lines,” he said.
The Eagles’ primary ball carrier is wingback Felix Flores and he will get help from quarterback Ramon Reyna. Jericho Skau and Mclane Kunze will be the chief targets when the Eagles go to the air.
“Playing assignment football on defense will be important. We stress reads and techniques for this game and do a good job of fill in the gaps,” Boedeker said.
Pettus runs the “50” front on defense.
Key defenders are lineman Logan Pena, linebackers Collin Scherer and Kunze.
“We will need to control the line of scrimmage when on offense,” Boedeker said.
