Bulldogs unable to catch Columbus in 56-38 loss

The Yoakum Bulldogs were on the road this past Friday to take on Class 3A Division I's number one ranked team, the Columbus High Cardinals.

The Cardinals were able to jump out to a 42-8 halftime lead before the Bulldogs would come charging back in the second half of the game. The Bulldogs ultimately came up short. However as the final score ended up 56-38 in favor of Columbus.

The Bulldogs were led offensively by quarterback Trae Cuellar's three total touchdowns with two through the air and one rushing. X'Zavier Barnett had 115 yards receiving with one touchdown and Kennan Dilworth also had a touchdown reception. Donovan Toussaint led the ground game with 105 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Defensively, the Bulldogs were paced by Brenten Jacob and Colby Jendzrey with four solo tackles apiece and Bradley Jacob recovered a Cardinals fumble.

The Bulldogs enter their bye week with a 5-3 record overall to go with a 1-1 district record. When the Bulldogs return to action Nov. 1 it will be at home against the Bulldogs of Hitchcock High School.
