Local schools to hold Veterans Day events

Several school districts in the area are preparing for Veterans Day programs on Monday, Nov. 11.

The Yoakum Junior High School will be having a Veterans Day program the morning of Veterans Day.

“We are planning on a having a presentation,” Yoakum Junior High Principal Gabe Adamek said. “Breakfast will be served at 7:50 a.m. followed by the presentation at 8 a.m. Students will be doing readings and the Junior High band will be performing. There will be the folding of the flag and veterans will explain what the flags represent and honor.”

The Yoakum Intermediate School will have its presentation this Friday, Nov. 8. 

“This will be at 9 a.m.,” Yoakum Intermediate Principal Jodie Palmer said. “Our students will be singing songs, and we will invite veterans to speak.”

There will be no presentations this year for Yoakum High School.

Sweet Home ISD will hold a drive-through parade on Veterans Day at 8:30 a.m.

“Community members are welcome to drive through as our students show their appreciation and support to all our veterans,” Sweet Home Superintendent Candace Pohl said. “We are asking all meet at the Sweet Home Volunteer Fire Department at 8:15 a.m. The parade will begin at 8:30 a.m.”
