Court holds Tuesday meeting

Due the regular Monday meeting falling on Veterans Day, a holiday, the Commissioners’ Court met Tuesday, Nov. 12.

As previously reported in last week’s paper, the court heard from Lavaca County EMS assistant chief Tim Decker, who recommended the county stay on a burn ban.

With the KBDI average reading for the county being in the 600’s, the court decided to continue with the ban.

Regarding other action items addressed by the court, it discussed and voted to amend the Lavaca County Personnel Policy to remove the 90-day waiting period to receive benefits for all full-time officials of the County.

The court approved a request from County Auditor, Shana Opela to conduct an audit for fiscal year 2024 Chapter 59 Asset Forfeiture funds for Lavaca County Sheriff and Attorney as per Article 59.06 of the Criminal Code of Procedure.

After deliberating in executive session, the court approved four invoice change orders for building safety and security in Lavaca County buildings, which would be funded by Fund 194.

Also, the court approved adopting the Lavaca County Security System policies and procedures.

In other action taken by the court in the regular meeting:

• Approved the 2024 Levy Roll.

• Declared a WRT Pull-type tire roller as surplus property for Pct. 3.

• Approved bond renewal for administrative assistant, Nailene Ruppert.

• Approved a certificate of exemption from subdivision requirement for Ryan Pope in Pct. 1.

• Approved all consent agenda items.

County Judge Keith Mudd presided over the meeting with commissioners Edward Pustka, Wayne Faircloth and Kenny Siegel present for the meeting.
