Benefit for local woman scheduled
By Clayton Kelley
Members of the community are hosting a benefit for a local woman, Ann Koncaba, who was injured in a car accident recently.
The bake sale will benefit Koncaba. It will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the South Star Bank. All proceeds will go toward Koncaba and her family.
The organizers of the event are Koncaba’s coworkers at Shady Oak Nursing and Rehab Center.
“There was an accident between Moulton and Shiner a few weeks ago involving Koncaba and her children,” organizer Monica Oranday said. “She’s a former employee with Shady Oak; however, she is still employed within the Creative Solutions family, which is a sister facility in Shiner. When we heard what happened, we chose to start a bake sale to help the family with transportation, medical bills or whatever may be going on. It’s going to be a long road to recovery. They will need to be provided with some kind of help.”
The accident occurred between 340 and Highway 95 toward Shiner. There were a lot of emergency personnel who came and assisted on the scene.
“We’re a community and we’re coming together to help Koncaba’s needs,” Oranday said.
There are people within the community of Moulton that are willing to donate toward the bake sale.
“We also have coworkers here at Shady Oak who are baking as well,” Shady Oak Activity Director Victoria Coronado said. “There are also people making donations to us as well. Ann is one of our own. She’s one of our people and you always want to take care of our people. We’re a family. In a small community, when something happens to your family, you want to be there to take care of them and that’s what we’re doing. This little contribution that we’re doing may not be a lot for some people out there, but it’s a big thing for Ann. A lot of this hits closer to home. This could have happened to one of us or someone else that we knew.”
Those wanting to bake something for the sale or make monetary donations can contact Oranday at 361-772-5965 or Cornelia Pohler at 361-772-2279.
