Shiner football: Comanches face Granger in regional round Friday

The Shiner Comanches play Granger Lions in the regional semifinals game at 7 p.m. Friday in Smithville.
The Comanches are into the third round after routs of 69-6 and 54-7 against Woodsboro and Brackett in the bi district and area rounds, respectively
The Lions are currently 9-3 and went 6-1 for second place in District 13-2ADII.
Granger defeated La Pryor in bi district 49-6 and La Villa 51-21 in the area round.
“Granger has a lot of tradition and they have played 14 games each season the last three years,” Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said. “They are used to playing around this time of the season. Granger is well coached the kids are hard nosed.
The Lions are scoring 33.16 points a game and giving up 17.33 points a game.
The Lions run the football out of the spread and are led by running back Caleb Hobratsch and linemen Marcus Martinez, Chase Selucky and Luke Stefek.
“Their offense starts with Hobratsch. He is a tough runner who breaks a lot of tackles and has good speed,” Boedeker said. “Quarterback Wyatt  Rochner is also a threat running the ball. They have a couple of big offensive lineman we will have to deal with. Have to control the line of scrimmage and tackle well. They will run counters and other things we have seen the last couple of weeks such as misdirection and option.”
The Lions run a ’50’ on the defensive side.
Holding down the fort for the Lion defense will be linebacker Stephen Rogers, linebacker Jett Jolly, and Martinez, Selucky and Stefek  on the line.
“The linebackers stand out the most as they get downhill fast and make plays,” Boedeker said.
