Lady ‘Dogs earn two wins before breaking for Thanksgiving

The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs basketball team defeated Luling and Victoria St. Joseph last week.

YOAKUM 55, VICTORIA-ST. JOSEPH 23

Deveah Rios scored 15 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 55-23 rout on Victoria St. Joseph Nov. 25 in Victoria.

Yoakum led 14-4 after the first quarter and outscored the Lady Flyers 9-4 in the second box for a 23-8 halftime lead.

Yoakum went on a 16-6 run in the third quarter and also scored 16 points in the fourth while limiting St. Joe to nine points.

Haley Horton was the Lady Flyer’s top scorer with six points.

Amori Harper scored 11 points and Faith McCloud hit a triple and finished with as Yoakum posted a comeback win Nov. 26 against Luling, 48- 43, avenging a loss earlier in the month.

The Lady Bulldogs led 13-3 after one quarter and a 13-1 run by Luling in the second gave the visitors a 16-14 halftime lead.

Yoakum went on a 14- 12 run for a 28-28 score at the end of the third quarter and outscored Luling 20-15 in the fourth to complete the comeback.

Khylie Busto scored 18 to pace the Lady Eagles.
