Lady Brahmas lose to Edna
The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas’ District 25-AAA win streak was snapped at two with a 59-46 loss to Edna on the Cowgirls’ home court Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Poor shooting and 30 turnovers hindered Hallettsville’s chances of winning.
The LB shot 26.2% from the field and were 7 of 19 from the free throw line. The Cowgirls shot 40.4% and made 9 of 27 free throws.
Junior guards Keira Santellara poured in 20 points and made 5 of 6 three-point attempts for the Cowgirls and two other players scored in double figures.
Edna got off to a 5-0 start and were never headed. The Cowgirls led 14-6 at the end of the first quarter and 39-21 at the half.
The third period was Santellar’s best when she scored 11 points with three threes and the Cowgirls led 48-30 going into the final 8 minutes.
Hallettsville began the fourth quarter with a free throw by Haven Johnson and baskets by Addison Matula and Haven Drozd to trim the margin 48-35. But Edna replied with a 6-2 run to stretch the lead to 54-37 and the game was all over at that point.
Bella Plotini and Sharti Guerra scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Destiny led the LB with 13 points.
