LB upset Columbus
The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas played as if their hair was on fire in upsetting state-ranked Columbus, 43-37, in a District 25-AAA game here on New Year’s eve.
Hallettsville forced 29 Columbus turnovers including 19 in the first half.
Alaina Halata scored 7 first quarter points to help stake the LB to a 12-10 lead.
The teams played on even terms in the second period and Hallettsville led 22-19 at the half.
Columbus took a 28-24 lead in the third quarter before Hallettsville closed out the period with a 6-0 run on a lay up and free throw by Addison Matula and a trey by Halata for a 30-28 advantage going into crunch time.
With the score 40-37 in 2:06 to play, Halata made three clutch free throws for the margin of victory.
Halata scored a gamehigh 19 points while Thea Schobel led Columbus with 13.
Christie Felcman came off the bench to score 7 big points for the LB.

Tidehaven 48, LB 36
The Lady Brahmas played another state ranked team in El Maton Friday
Three players scored in double digits for the Tigerettes (24-1, 4-1) in the 48-36 victory.
Tidehaven wasted no time and jumped out to a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. The LB fought back behind two threes by Kasey Harper to trim the lead to 27-20 at the intermission.
Tidehaven, out-scored Hallettsville in the final two periods 21-16.
Harper led Hallettsville with 10 points. Marissa Riddick led all scorers with 14 points.
The LB were 9 for 10 from the foul line.
