LB gets revenge victory over Edna
Balanced scoring carried the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas to a 66-47 revenge victory over Edna in a District 25-AAA game against Edna here Monday, Jan. 20.
The LB had four players in double figures.
The victory avenged a 59-46 loss to Edna Dec. 17.
The LB jumped all over the Cowgirls for a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter behind 6 points from Destiny Garza and Addison Matula. Hallettsville forced 8 Edna turnovers in the period.
Hallettsville scored 11 points in the second period with Matula scoring 7 of them and had the same 13-point lead at the half, 30-17.
But the noose started to get tight in the third quarter.
Shanti Guerra buried 11 points and Hallettsville’s lead was cut to 43-38 heading into the final eight minutes.
After a free throw by Sophia Delgado to open the fourth quarter trimmed the lead to 43-39. But Alaina Halata stepped up big for the LB with a trey and a lay up to increase the margin to 48-39.
Edna got within 6 points prior to the LB going on a 10-0 run with another trey by Halata and two buckets by Kasey Harper to up the lead to 58-42. Garza hit 4 four key free throws in the finals eight minutes.
Halata led Hallettsville with 17 points, Matula scored 14, Garza 12 and freshman Catherine Felcman 11. Guerra had a game-high 21 points for Edna.
The LB turned the ball over just 13 times and the Cowgirls had 21 floor errors.
Hallettsville shot 63.2% from the foul line, making 12 of 19. Matula and Garza were both 4 for 6 while Edna was 5 for 14.

Columbus 52, LB 42
The Lady Cardinals snapped Hallettsville’s four-game win streak with a 52-42 win in Columbus Friday.
Hallettsville (7-4 in district) had defeated Columbus 43-37 here Dec. 31.
Amaya Gardner led Columbus with 16 points and Alaina Halata and Addison Matula both scored 16 points for the Lady Brahmas.
Columbus (18-7, 8-3) had a 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and took a 24-21 advantage at the half.
The lead was extended to 40-31 going into the fourth period.
Both teams shot well from the foul line with Hallettsville making 12 of 20 and Columbus 18 of 24.
