Lady Brahmas lose to Jourdanton
SEGUIN – The Jourdanton Squaws showed no love for the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas on Valentines’s Day with a 60-50 area round victory in a 3A, Division II area game Friday night.
The first and third quarters were the killers for Hallettsville.
The Squaws led 22-11 at the end of the first quarter following three threes by both Alyannah Alvarado and Savanna Schuchart.
Alaina Halata hit a trey and two free throws in the second period to help trim the lead to 29-20 at the half.
Jourdanton took a 41- 32 lead after the LB made just four field goals in third quarter
The Squaws led by as many as 19 points in the fourth. But like a bad headache, Hallettsville did not go away.
Destiney Garza hit two threes and two free throws to help cut the lead to 49-42 with 2:34 to play. However, Jourdanton got key buckets from Jocelyn Ramirez and a three by Alvarado to keep the LB at arm’s length.
Alvarado hit a gamehigh 24 points and Schuchart 18.
Garza scored 18 points and Halata 15 for Hallettsville.
Threes and free throws were the big difference in the game with the Squaws making 11 of 23 from behind the arc for 47.8% and Hallettsville 24%. Jourdanton was 7 for 10 at the foul line and the LB 8 for 18.
The Squaws, 31-6, will play San Diego in the next round. Hallettsville finished its season 15-17 after playing a tough non-district schedule.
