St. Paul boys basketball: O’Connell Prep deals Cards 77-53 defeat in area-round playoffs
Jack Ehrig got a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Jack Leonard added 11 points but the Cardinals came up short in the area-round game Feb. 18 at Galveston O’Connell Preparatory 77-53.
O’Connell led 21-11 after one quarter and St. Paul went on a 16-13 run in the second frame to reduce their deficit to 34-27.
O’Connell outscored the Cardinals 19-11 in the third quarter and went on a 24-15 run in the fourth period.
Jarrius Smith led O’Connell Prep with 24 points.
The Cardinals finish the season at 10-5 and went 3-3 for second place in district. They earned a bi-district title and were area-round finalists.
They lose three seniors to graduation — Ezekiel Rodriguez, Chris Peters and Joe Peters.
