Yoakum ISD celebrates Texas Public Schools Week
Yoakum Independent School District (YISD) will honor Texas Public Schools Week, March 3-7.
“Public schools across the state are committed to laying the groundwork for a quality education,” said Tom Kelley, YISD Superintendent.
“YISD provides a solid foundation beginning with the dedicated efforts of our educators, adding the support of parents and the community. We strive to equip our students with the tools necessary to succeed in life,” said Kelley.
The following campuses have planned activities for Public Schools Week:
YOAKUM PRIMARY ANNEX
Pre-K students will listen to stories written by Dr. Seuss throughout the week. Kindergarten students will be learning about symbols of Texas.
Parents are invited to an Open House 4-5 p.m. March 4. The week will conclude with students dressing as cowboys and cowgirls March 7.
YOAKUM PRIMARY SCHOOL
Students will have the opportunity to dress-up all week. Community members will volunteer their time to read Dr. Seuss stories to students March 3. Parents are invited for muffins and Open House on the morning of March 5.
On March 6, there will be a classroom Chili Cook-off. The busy week will end with an exciting Texas Fair with lots of activities during physical education class March 8.
YOAKUM INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
Students will have the opportunity to dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters March 3, as well as reading the book, Green Eggs and Ham. On Tuesday, students will be learning about the great state of Texas and are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue.
On March 4, students are invited to wear their craziest hat to go along with Dr. Seuss’ book, Cat in the Hat. In celebrating the Texas rodeo, students are encouraged to wear their best western wear March 6. Dr. Seuss’ books, Sleep Book or The Lorax, will be read March 7 so students will be allowed to wear their pajamas or a mustache to school.
YOAKUM JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Parents are invited to check-in at the office and walk through the mall area to view students’ projects on display March 5.
