Historical marker dedication held

At the February 25th SG&FPL meeting, Lavaca County Historical Commission chairman, Doug Kubicek, dedicated their new historical marker in front of the Game and Fish Building at Green Dickson Park. Shiner Game and Fish Protective League President, Jake Kram, welcomed Kubicek and Duff Wagner to the meeting and Doug spoke to the members about the heritage that this group of sportsmen have cherished since its inception as a local chapter of the Frank Walton League of America in 1931 before transferring to The Shiner Game and Fish Protective League in 1932.  Wagner presented Kram two copies of the historical narrative written for the Texas Historical Commission’s marker application and process to be kept for the group’s records as well as to be passed around and read by the members. Kubicek told many historic anecdotes about the League activities during the 1950s and 1960s of which he attended in person, in Welhausen’s Pasture on Rocky Creek, as well as the fact that this organization has done so much for the City of Shiner’s Green Dickson Municipal Park. Kubicek also praised City Parks and Recreation supervisor, Kenny Machacek and his city crew for erecting the marker and placing the yellow protective barrier in front of it.  SG&FPL President Kram thanked Doug for all the hard work that went into this marker as something that the group is very proud of and were very thankful for.
